The Bolton Camera Club meets weekly throughout most of the year and gives a very warm welcome to visitors and new members. We have been sharing a passion for photography since 1884 and are more than happy to share with you, whether your interest is in film or digital, audio visual or more technical aspects of photography.

Our Syllabus continues to reflect the wishes of our members by being a mix of informative lectures, internal competitions, and external competitions with other local camera clubs, all with the aim of developing photographic skills while having fun.

We hold an Open Night on the first Thursday of most months where we hope these evenings will be a great opportunity for members to learn and develop new skills shown to them by our more experienced members. The topics are selected from ideas put forward by our members.

Our monthly Open Competitions are held on the third Thursday of each month, and are for the fun and enjoyment of our members, and all members are welcome to submit images. Judges from other local clubs give their constructive comments from which we can all learn and improve.

Our Themed Competitions are held on different nights to the Open Competition, so please check the syllabus for the dates and topics.

We also arrange Days Out for our members to a wide variety of locations during the year. Our more experienced members pass on help and advice to  members who are new to photography, and we hold a competition at the end of the year for prints and projected images taken  on these days out.

All our meetings are conducted in a very friendly atmosphere, and both visitors and potential new members are always welcome.

Meetings are on Thursdays. All meetings will start at 7.30pm prompt.

13  September        Lecture

Neil Hulme "Moments in Mono"

Based in the north west of England, Neil Hulme is a self-taught black and white photographer often using long exposures to focus on the essential elements of the scene before him. There is a beautiful simplicity in the minimalist approach to his work which produces an air of calm and serenity, allowing the viewer to feel the sense of solitude he is attempting to convey. The subtle and perfectly balanced use of monochrome tones and contrast add much to an other-worldly mood and sense of abstraction in his interpretation of the landscape.

   11     October        Geoff Davis Competrition

This is a competition for mono prints on the theme of Street Photography.

This competition is in fond memory of Geoff Davies, who was a former President of this camera club and a highly regarded photographer from Bolton. He specialised in black and white prints on street photography.

For the purposes of this competition, Street photography, also sometimes called candid photography, is photography conducted for art or enquiry that features unrelated chance encounters and random incidents within public places. Street photography does not necessitate the presence of a street or even the urban environment. Though people usually feature directly, street photography might be absent of people and can be of an object or environment where the image projects a decidedly human character in facsimile or aesthetic.
