Monthly Competition Results

The Bolton Camera Club meets weekly throughout most of the year and gives a very warm welcome to visitors and new members. We have been sharing a passion for photography since 1884 and are more than happy to share with you, whether your interest is in film or digital, audio visual or more technical aspects of photography.

Thursday February 21st saw our first Print competition of 2013, with Norman Thompson DPAGB LBIPP standing in at short notice as guest judge. Norman, a member of Bury PS, is the current Treasurer of the L&CPU, and is a friend of this club.

In the Beginners Competition there were 31 prints, and after a run through Norman gave us the benefit of his comments and awarded a score for each. He held back five prints, saying that they all stood out. He awarded 18 points to “Broadcasting Station” by Philip Durkin and “Snowy Trees” by Nina Thomasson. “Broadcasting Station” was described by Norman as having “a lot of the boardwalk” and was “well executed and superbly presented.” “Snowy Trees” was a” warm tone mono image,” which Norman liked, and it “held the detail in the highlights,” which Norman admitted is difficult to achieve

Norman gave 19 points to “River Reed” “Iberdrola HQ,” both by Peter Thomasson.

Describing “River Reed” as “absolutely beautiful” Norman added it was a “simple shot that was superbly presented.” Norman said “Iberdrola HQ” was a “strong image with “superb treatment.”

After due consideration Norman awarded top place and the 20 points to “Norwich Cathedral” also by Peter Thomasson. Norman said this was a “superb record shot” and had “good detail in the window, which is very good” he said it was “absolutely superb from start to finish” with “good detail, even in the shadows.”

The full statistics can be viewed by opening the attached PDF file below. Any member wanting to know all the scores and Norman's comments can see them in the Competition binder on display at the club.
