External Competition Results

The Bolton Camera Club meets weekly throughout most of the year and gives a very warm welcome to visitors and new members. We have been sharing a passion for photography since 1884 and are more than happy to share with you, whether your interest is in film or digital, audio visual or more technical aspects of photography.

This competition was held at the Poynton Civic Centre on Saturday 16 November 2013, with guest judge Richard Spears DPAGB APAGB from Carlisle.

A total of 37 clubs from within the L&CPU took part, so the initial entry of 8 PDI was reduced to 5 from each club to keep the overall number of images at an acceptable amount of 185.

Our images were “The Old Landing Stage, Swanage” by Peter Maddock, “The Elegance of a Little Egret” by Richard Towell, “Little White Hut” by David Hawkins, “Compatible” by Paul Baybut and “Baboon in Evening Light” by Brian White.

The judge had seen the images beforehand, and so as each image was shown he gave his comments and said whether the image stayed or left the competition. Judge Richard did say in all honesty that he would like to claim all the images on display tonight as his own, and that in any other competition all are winners, but as this is a knockout competition some have to go, for the reasons he gave to each one. At the end of Round 1 just 66 images remained, 119 having been knocked out. Along with 8 other clubs these sadly included all of our images, but like all competitions it is about the taking part not the winning that counts. We were treated to another viewing of these 66 superb images in Round 2 and to the benefit of more accurate and positive comments from judge Richard.

After another couple of rounds only 12 images were left for the final selection. After much careful deliberation Richard pronounced “Maid Katelyn” by Terry Donnelly ARPS DPAGB BPE4* of Chorley PS to be the winning image..

In the end it was a closely fought competition, and in third place was Chorley PS on 19 points, second was Wigan 10 on 20 points and top was North Cheshire PS with 21 points. The full results and scores can be seen on the following attachment, with thanks to the organsiers at the L&CPU for producing these results.

Our congratulations go to Terry for his wining image, and our thanks go to the organisers for putting on another competition of extremely high quality images. Our thanks also go to North Cheshire PS for winning and for providing excellent hospitality.
