The Bolton Camera Club meets weekly throughout most of the year and gives a very warm welcome to visitors and new members. We have been sharing a passion for photography since 1884 and are more than happy to share with you, whether your interest is in film or digital, audio visual or more technical aspects of photography.

The Ted Colman Memorial Competition took place in Rochdale on Tuesday 23 May 2017, and the judge was Dave Butler MFIAP ARPS PPSA BPE5* from Chorley PS.

Each of the clubs who entered have submitted 13 PDI in advance, and chosen the four PDI for the first round. The three clubs with the lowest scores are eliminated, and the remaining clubs chose their next four PDI for Round 2. The three clubs with the lowest scores will be eliminated, leaving 9 clubs for Round 3. The two clubs with the highest scores then show one PDI each and the club with the top scoring image is the winner.

Our first four PDI were “Kingfisher with Fish” by Richard Towell (18 points), “Awaiting Orders” by Alan Bromiley (17 points), “Gatesgarth, Buttermere” by David Hawkins (16 points) and “Little Owl in Flight” by Blake Wardle (17 points). Our total for this round was 68 points, in third place and was more than enough to enable us to progress to Round 2.

Our total score for the second round was 66 points, in second place, and enough for us to progress to round 3, the semi-final, for the first time in this competition.

The final round was a single image by Bury PS (“Yawning Hare”) and Oldham PS (“Orange Tipped Butterfly”). Judge Dave preferred the PDI from Bury, who were worthy winners on the night.

Our congratulations go to Bury PS and our thanks go to John Smith and his team from Rochdale for organising another wonderful fun competition, with over 140 images shown. We were delighted with third place overall, and look forward to next year’s competition.
